Official Opening of the Wentworth Visitor Centre

Wentworth Shire Council is delighted to announce the official opening of the Wentworth Visitor Centre, located at 61 Darling Street, Wentworth. The opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday, 12 March 2025 commencing at 10:00am, and will be officiated by The Hon. Ron Hoenig MP, Minister for Local Government.

The Wentworth Visitor Centre is a state-of-the-art facility designed to centralise a variety of Council services and community activities under one roof. The Centre includes the Council Administration Office, Visitor Information Centre, Wentworth Library, Conference Room, and Council Chambers. It also features the Wentworth Historical Society and the Junction Café, catering to both local residents and visitors.

Funding of the centre has been sourced from both state and Federal Government through the following grant programs:

  • Public Library Infrastructure Grant (State Library of New South Wales) for the relocation of the Wentworth Shire Library.
  • Resources for Regions Program for the relocation of the Wentworth Visitor Information Centre.
  • NSW Government Local Roads and Infrastructure Program Extension for the construction of the Wentworth Library Outdoor Riverfront Gathering Space (Library Courtyard).
  • NSW Government Local Roads and Infrastructure Program for additional community facilities.
  • Federal Government’s Economic Development Program for the Wentworth Community Space and Convention Centre.
  • Joint Organisation Tourism Infrastructure Funding.

Since the relocation of Council services to the refurbished centre in late 2024, the Wentworth Visitor Centre has already served the community well, providing a centralised and efficient hub for various services and activities.

The Wentworth Visitor Centre is designed to be inclusive and accessible for all. It features interactive displays in the Visitor Information Centre, making it an engaging destination for visitors of all ages. The facility is fully disability accessible, with a lift, accessible toilets, and a hearing loop to ensure everyone can enjoy the amenities. This Centre truly caters to the needs of residents and visitors alike, offering a welcoming space for the entire community.

Quote from The Hon. Ron Hoenig MP, Minister for Local Government: “I’m looking forward to visiting Wentworth to celebrate the official opening of the new Visitor Centre. This is a wonderful local government project and an investment in Wentworth’s future that will benefit the Council and community for many years to come.”

Quote from Cr Daniel Linklater, Mayor of Wentworth Shire Council: “We are thrilled to officially open the Wentworth Visitor Centre, a facility that has already proven to be a valuable asset to our community since we moved in late 2024. This Centre not only centralises essential services, making them more accessible to our residents and visitors, but also represents our commitment to sustainable growth and community development. We look forward to continuing to serve the community from this modern, efficient hub.”
