Carramar Drive Sporting Complex Cricket Nets

Council is thrilled to announce the official opening of SUNRAYSIA’s inaugural sheltered cricket nets at the Carramar Drive Sporting Complex in Gol Gol. This multipurpose six-lane net facility stands proudly as a symbol of our commitment to sports and recreation, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the local club, Gol Gol Cricket Club, Wentworth Shire Council, and $500,000 in funding from Round 5 of the Stronger Country Communities Fund.

The unveiling ceremony, graced by Helen Dalton MP, Member for Murray, and Mayor of Wentworth Shire, Councillor Daniel Linklater, was a momentous occasion underscoring Council’s dedication to providing top-notch sporting facilities. Helen Dalton MP showcased her cricketing skills during the event, expressing the facility’s significance within the broader electorate. Mayor Daniel Linklater echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the positive impact this facility will have on fostering a culture of sport within the region. Also present were Councillors Cr Sue Nichols (Deputy Mayor), Cr Peter Crisp, Cr Jo Rodda, Cr Brian Beaumont, and members of the Gol Gol Cricket Club.

Adding a touch of youthful enthusiasm to the event, Abby Collihole (16), Megan Collihole (14), and Emily Collihole (12) were among those who tested out the indoor pitch. Abby has been selected to play in Malaysia for 10 days in 2024. Council extends its best wishes to Abby, wishing her success in the matches and a fulfilling international cricket experience.

The Gol Gol Cricket Club, with its diverse teams and programs, is set to benefit immensely from this innovative training space. The club, in coordination with Wentworth Shire Council, expresses gratitude for the collaborative efforts that have made this state-of-the-art facility a reality.

This transformative project received a substantial contribution of $200,000 from Wentworth Shire Council, approved as part of Round 5 of the Stronger Country Communities Fund. The Deputy Premier gave the green light for this initiative in December 2022, reaffirming Council’s commitment to bolstering sporting infrastructure in the Wentworth area.

To complement the new facility, the Gol Gol Cricket Club has invested in advanced training equipment, including a bowling machine and a speed gun, aimed at further elevating the standard of training for its members.

Wentworth Shire Council extends its appreciation to Helen Dalton MP, Gol Gol Cricket Club, and the NSW Government for their collaborative support in making this state-of-the-art facility a reality.
