This $9.2 million project, jointly funded by the Australian Government and NSW Government under the Growing Local Economies Fund, delivers 87.5 kilometres of bitumen sealing, providing a safer, faster, and more reliable journey for motorists.
 
The event will feature The Hon. Jenny Aitchison MP, Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, and The Hon. Sussan Ley, Federal Government Leader of the Opposition.
 
The upgrade includes 61 kilometres sealed through the Central Darling Shire and 26.5 kilometres through Wentworth Shire.

Proposed Road Closing at Wentworth
In pursuance of the provisions of section 38B of the Roads Act 1993, notice is hereby given that Wentworth Shire Council proposes to close a section of the council public road listed in Schedule 1.

Schedule 1: Helena Street between Darling Street and the Darling River

The proposed closure is shown by the black hatching in the above diagram.

Upon closure of the road, council intends to retain the land for community purposes to extend the adjoining car parking area and provide access to the Darling River.

All interested persons are hereby invited to make submissions concerning the proposal to the General Manager, Wentworth Shire Council, PO Box 81, Wentworth NSW 2648 or by email (listed below) within twenty-eight (28) days of the date of this advertisement. Please note that under the provisions of the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009, such submissions may be referred to third parties for consideration.

Once the submission period is completed by 24 December 2024, Wentworth Shire Council will formally consider all duly made submissions before deciding whether to continue with the road closure proposal.

Arumpo Road sealing has commenced

Arumpo Road sealing has commenced
Contractors commenced sealing the first 13 kilometre section of Arumpo Road on Monday 18 November 2024.

Key project details:
24.52km section of road upgrades including 2 x 100mm sub base layers with 25 pieces of plant utilised on the project
Works commenced in June 2024
Expected completion of March 2025
Funding consists of $5 million (Australian Government) and $1.25 million (NSW Government)

Wentworth Visitor Centre: A New Hub for Community Services & Exploration

The Wentworth Visitor Centre, located at 61 Darling Street, Wentworth, offers a modern and centralised hub for a variety of Council services and community activities. Designed to enhance accessibility and convenience, the Centre consolidates key services, including the Council Administration Office, Visitor Information Centre, Wentworth Library, Conference Room, and Council Chambers. The Centre also features the Wentworth Historical Society and the Junction Café, catering to both local residents and visitors.
 
Opening Hours
Council services are available in one convenient location with the following hours:

  • Council Administration Office: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5pm
  • Wentworth Library: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5pm; Saturday, 9am – 2pm
  • Visitor Information Centre: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5pm; Saturday & Sunday, 9am – 2pm

 
The Wentworth Visitor Centre represents a significant investment in Wentworth’s future, creating a centralised and efficient facility that meets both the operational needs of Council and the needs of the community. By unifying services under one roof, the Centre maximises operational efficiency and reduces infrastructure duplication, ensuring a streamlined experience for all.
 
Led by a project steering committee, the development was carried out by GSD Architects, CPM Building Contractors, and Brandi Projects, bringing the community a facility built to high standards in design and functionality.
 
Council invites everyone to visit the new Wentworth Visitor Centre and explore the range of services and amenities it offers.
 
Conference Room Hire at the Wentworth Visitor Centre
Set on the banks of the Darling River, the Wentworth Visitor Centre’s Conference Room is available for hire, providing a premium venue for conferences and events. The 380m² space is equipped with:

  • Panoramic river views
  • Industrial service kitchen with stovetop, cool room, crockery & cutlery
  • PA system with cordless microphone and wireless headset
  • Two display projectors with HDMI connection
  • Bluetooth and internet access
  • Capacity: 200 guests (theatre/banquet), 160 guests (cabaret) or ~380 guests (cocktail).
